Design & build — surprisingly comfortable

Display — brighter, more usable in sunlight
The display remains one of the best on any phone. Color reproduction and contrast are excellent, and the screen benefits from Apple’s continued refinement of OLED tech. One caveat: under very heavy usage (camera, video, gaming) brightness can drop as the phone thermally throttles, but in normal daily use this is unlikely to bother most users.
Performance & thermals — a real upgrade
Apple’s tweaks to the chassis and the introduction of a new vapor chamber cooling system pay off. Benchmarks show a clear uplift over the 16 Pro Max, and real-world heavy workloads — extended gaming sessions, video rendering, and intensive multitasking — run cooler and smoother. During a 30-minute heavy gaming test, surface temps stayed notably lower than last year’s model and frame drops were reduced. Storage speed has also improved significantly, delivering faster load and transfer times for pro workloads.
Battery & charging — finally faster
A bigger battery and improved optimizations deliver solid all-day battery life. More importantly for many users, Apple has increased charging capability to around 40W, which moves the iPhone into a much more usable fast-charging territory. It’s not the fastest in the market, but compared to prior iPhone Pro models, it’s a welcome step forward.
Cameras — major refinements, especially the telephoto

iOS 26 on the iPhone 17 Pro Max feels more fluid. Animations are snappier, app open/close speed is improved, and small quality-of-life features (OTP suggestions at the keyboard, on-screen image search) add to the experience.
